Mirror: A Tale Of Twin Cities, City of Streamer and more to premiere next week

Happy New Year! There’s plenty of dramas premiering over the next few days, so I thought I’d cover them all in the same post. Which ones are you looking forward to watching the most?

On a side note, I just started watching time-loop drama Reset, and it’s pretty good so far. It’s not the thriller I was expecting, though I do like how it spends time developing the backstories of the other bus passengers as well. Plus, it’s only 15 episodes long – what can go wrong? Try the first episode here.

Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities 镜:双城
– 2 episodes every Sunday to Wednesday beginning Jan 16th on Youku, Tencent (WeTV)

The fantasy angsty romance drama stars Li Yifeng as King of the Seas who wants to lead his enslaved people to freedom. Chen Yuqi plays the queen of the noble Bai clan, and Zheng Yecheng costars as the crown prince of the ruling kingdom (and the third wheel).

A Chance Meeting 今生有你
– 2 episodes daily on CCTV-8, Youku beginning Jan 18th

Wallace Chung and Li Xiaoran star as reunited lovers in their second project together after a decade. I still need some time to get used to Wallace Chung’s accent, but kudos to the actor for using his own voice. [Extended synopsis]

Operation Special Warfare 特战行动
– 2 episodes daily on CCTV-8, Tencent, iQiyi beginning Jan 18th

An anti-terrorism military drama starring Gao Weiguang and Hu Bingqing in the lead roles. The trailer looks pretty serious – fingers-crossed romance will be sitting on the sidelines.

City of Streamer 流光之城

Jing Tian plays the governess who is back for revenge, while Xu Weizhou plays her genius student and a member of the powerful Rong family. Jing Chao and Hai Ling costar.

Sassy Beauty 潇洒佳人淡淡妆
– Airs weekly on iQiyi beginning tonight at 8pm (CN time)

The 24 episode rom-com from iQiyi stars Snow Kong Xue’er as a beauty blogger who gets teleported into a game, and falls in love with the hero, played by Yan Zidong.

  1. I am halfway through Reset. It is very well-done. Fast-paced. Good script. The story telling gets you hooked.

On this list, I will try out Mirror, Operation Warfare & City of Streamers. If the CGI & costumes in Mirror are well-done and the plot & script is intelligent, I think it would be great. It looks beautiful, so far.

  2. Happy new year and welcome back. Was worried there for a bit not seeing updates. Other than the last rim com I’ll give the rest a try. Right now am watching the Lion’s Secret and Rainless Love in Godless Land. Enjoying both so far.
