A Dream of Splendor 梦华录 stars Liu Yifei (Mulan) as Zhao Pan’er, the owner of a Hangzhou teahouse who is abandoned by her husband-to-be Ouyang Xu after he ranks third in the national examinations. She embarks on a journey to the capital Bianjing to seek justice for herself, and helps Song Yinzhang (Lin Yun) and Sun Sanniang (Liu Yan) escape their abusive marriages along the way.
The three women decide to earn money and settle down in Bianjing after Ouyang Xu attempts to force them out of the capital. After overcoming various trials and struggles, their teahouse transforms into one of the most popular restaurants. Chen Xiao (Healer of Children) costars as Zhao Pan’er’s love interest.
Based on Guan Hanqing’s play Rescued by a Coquette, the 48 episode drama is directed by Yang Yang (Ever Night) and written by Zhang Wei (World of Dugu, The Imperial Doctress). Huang Wei (Ever Night, The Longest Day in Chang’an) designed the costumes.
Chen Xiao is a good actor but unfortunately his break from Yu Zheng and his marriage really affected his career. I hope he will steadily get good roles and rise above all…
Though Ever Night 2 got bad rep, but I’m still excited for a historical drama directed by Yang Yang! Not too enthusiastic about the writer though :(
