Sheep Without a Shepherd 误杀 is based on the Indian film Drishyam and stars Xiao Yang and Tan Zhuo as parents who would do anything to protect their daughter. Joan Chen costars as the head of the Thailand police force. The film is slated for a Dec. 13th release.
Sword Dynasty stars Li Xian as a cultivator who is training to assassinate the king (Liu Yijun). Li Yitong plays the hero’s ‘aunt’ and future love interest. The 34 episode series releases 2 episodes every Friday-Sunday on iQiyi beginning tonight.(more…)
I’ll still watch the movie for the nostalgia and Liu Yifei/Gong Li, but I just don’t understand why some of the visual choices are so hideous in Disney’s Mulan.
You would think the biggest film company in the world with such a big budget would be able to build on years of development in the Chinese entertainment industry, yet it’s uglier than TV series made decades ago. How do they get a German costume designer, a New Zealand production designer and make-up artist, an Australian cinematographer, a British stunt coordinator, but not a single person who’s worked on a few Chinese movies or dramas in the past decade to be in the production crew?

I’ve got so much to say about Royal Nirvana I just couldn’t wait until the halfway mark, so here I am with a first impressions post (Episodes 1-11).
Royal Nirvana is a poignant drama that is anchored by a group of wonderful actors and an equally good screenwriter in Liangman Xueyuan, who is also the original author. The tragic relationship between the emperor (Huang Zhizhong) and his estranged son the crown prince Xiao Dingquan (Luo Jin) forms the core of the story, and sets the tone for the entire drama.(more…)
Disney’s live-action Mulan released two new trailers today. The film is set for a release date of March 27, 2020. It stars Liu Yifei, Gong Li, Donnie Yen, Jet Lee, Jason Scott Lee, and Yoson An.

After a long drought in the genre, the team behind Qing Dynasty time-traveling romance Bu Bu Jing Xing returns with an adaptation of one of the pillars of the genre – A Dream Back to the Qing Dynasty 梦回大清 by Jinzi. The series stars Li Landi as a modern girl sent back to the reign of Kangxi, where she becomes intertwined with the lives of the various princes as they fight for the throne.(more…)
