Legend of Fei 有翡 is an upcoming wuxia drama that depicts the growth of a female warrior in a time when the influence and power of the pugilist world (wulin) is on decline. Zhao Liying plays the likable heroine Zhou Fei, and Wang Yibo plays a carefree martial artist who is later revealed to be Xie Yun, the Prince of Duan.

Several years ago, the emperor secretly ordered the hero Li Zheng to form a mountain stronghold consisting of bandits in order to keep the pugilist world under control. His daughter Li Jinrong leads the stronghold after Li Hui’s death, and gives birth to Zhou Fei after marrying scholar Zhou Yitang.

Zhou Fei’s attempts at escaping have always ended in failure, though Li Jinrong allows her daughter to go and experience the world outside after her 16th birthday. She meets Xie Yun again after he saves her from drowning during her first escape attempt, and they embark on an adventurous journey through wulin together. Costars include Dong Xuan, Zhang Huiwen, Che Xiao, Geng Le, Sun Jian and Hu Bing.

Based on the novel of the same name by Priest (Guardian), the 50 episode drama is helmed by Wu Jinyuan (Princess Agents) and penned by the team behind Us and Them and Boss and Me.

  1. I am not worried about age gap because Liying (like Ariel Lin) is blessed with baby face and look ridiculously young for her age so she can pull this through easily. It depends on how the make up artist made her up. Yibo does not look 22 in costume. I was surprised to see that he was so young. I thought he was same age as Yu Bin or Xiao Zhan. What I would like though is to have a proper ending. PA was nice but the ending was hanging and it was frustrating. I am looking forward to this.

  2. I’m more concerned about the script because the author of the source book, Priest, is known for developing her characters well, and many readers have praised the heroine’s growth from a sheltered girl to a fearless leader. Additionally, the male lead is described as a multi-faceted person who respects and is honest with the heroine, so I hope they don’t make him two dimensional.

    • she was able to pull off ming lan, so im not too concerned about zhao liying, the male lead on the other hand, i haven’t seen his work but this is a wuxia piece so, more than just acting will be required

  3. Age gap does not matter ppl!!! Their job is to act! If they can pull it off that’s all it matter! Are u liking them for their age or acting skills? Simple as that thank u. She was able to pull Ming Lan as the youngest child what can this role stop her from? She is talented I believe in ZLY ❤️ More like I’m concerned about WYB lol

  4. Excited to see Zhao Liying back! The character is a good choice for her comeback. I wonder if they’re going to make significant changes since in the book, the male lead is significantly older than the female lead.

    • The age gap occurred to me too, especially this reverse age gap. Cdramas are not known for staying true to the source material. I’m not sure the novel has large enough and vocal enough organized fanbase to keep the producers in check.

      • I’m not feeling the age gap either (reverse or not). But Liying & Jin Han didn’t look ludicrous in Our Glamorous Time despite their age gap, so who knows how her pairing with Wang Yibo will turn out. I’m actually more surprised that Zhao Liying chose this role, because I imagine after Ming Lan she’ll pursue less idol-y materials.

In addition, the mention of the director of Princess Agents makes me nervous. Still a bit traumatized, LOL.

        • I feel like the source material for this isn’t that idol-y. I didn’t finish the book but there was very few romance in the parts I read. It’s more of a traditional wuxia.

        • It’s been often repeated that in cdrama production, unless one is a top-tier director, one has little control over budget, script or cast, and not all that much control over the production. Those who put up the money have all the power. The director must work to satisfy their demands.

We can better guess this drama’s main genre when the rest of the main cast is announced.

I’ve only watched a couple ZLY dramas. Both older period dramas. My very biased impression is she’s been playing teenage girl since forever.

    • Ariel Lin is 11 years older than Bin Bin and she was able to pull of being younger than him in I Will Never Let You Go. I think as long as they look similar in age it’s no biggie. Zhao Li Ying played the youngest sibling in Ming Lan and I never questioned it, she looked the part. With the filter, makeup, and Zhao Li Ying’s natural youthful appearance I don’t think it will be an issue.
