…Except their previous drama See You Again still hasn’t secured an air date.

The Legend of Xiao Chuo 燕云台 chronicles the life of Xiao Yanyan (Tang Yan), the most powerful woman of the Liao dynasty. Shawn Dou plays her childhood sweetheart and main love interest Han Derang, who becomes the most influential Han official in the Liao court.

In a cruel twist of fate, Xiao Yanyan is sent into the palace to become the consort of Yelü Xian (Jing Chao). Though she was forced into the marriage, Xiao Yanyan is extremely dedicated in her new role as empress, and gains her husband’s respect and love after showing her capability in the political arena. Xiao Yanyan is entrusted with governing the country and acting as regent for their son after Yelv Xian’s death, and is eventually able to marry her true love Han Derang. Charmaine Sheh just wrapped up filming Winter Begonia, and will soon join the rest of the crew as Xiao Yanyan’s ambitious older sister.

The 50 episode drama is written by Jiang Shengnan, author of the source novel for Legend of Mi Yue, and directed by Jeffrey Chiang (Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre 2019).

Fun Fact: Xiao Yanyan is often portrayed as the antagonist in adaptions of Generals of the Yang Family.

    1. Right? Even though there has been improvement about this, at one point it was so inevitable that any and all period and/or fantasy drama English titles would be “Legend of Wotsname” that any use of that formula will be off-putting for the next three years at least. Even when the actual title is “Legend of Wotsname”!
