Upcoming historical romance drama The Song of Glory 南歌, previously known as 雀谋 / 锦绣长歌 / Biding Time, comes from the producers of The Princess Weiyoung, and stars Li Qin (Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace) as the mistress of a dance house who is later revealed to be the missing daughter of a respected family of warriors. Qin Hao (Tomb of Sea) costars as Liu Yilong, the emperor of Liu Song and her main love interest.
During the Yuanjia era, powerful aristocrats have usurped the throne and political power, and the country is in a state of chaos. Liu Yilong puts up pretenses as a tyrannical ruler, and waits for the perfect chance to seize power.
Lige’s attempts to assassinate the ‘despotic’ emperor end in failure, and the heroine ends up as a pawn in the power struggle between the Lu family and the emperor. She finds out her true identity as the daughter of the Shen family in the process, and develops romantic affections for Liu Yilong after they go through several trials and tribulations together outside the palace.
As loyal allies of the emperor, the Shen family is later massacred by political opponents, and, as the only surviving heir, Lige is burdened with reviving her clan. She helps Liu Yilong push through political reforms, punishes those conspiring to dethrone Liu Yilong, and helps him regain control of the court.
X-Nine idol Gu Jiacheng and Qi Ji (Queen Dugu) will costar. The 65 episode drama is directed by Li Huizhu (Untouchable Lovers, Princess Weiyoung), and began filming today.
Yay! Excited for Li Qin to headline an ancient series, and one that seems to have a decent production team.
Not sure why Gu Jiacheng keeps being cast in dramas when he’s easily one of the stiffer actors of X-Nine. Why not Xiao Zhan (again) or Xia Zhiguang or Guo Zifan.
Wow I’m actually digging this! First of all, excited bc Li Qin and Qin Hao are both not only good actors but charismatic actors too, so super anticipating them leading. Also plus, warrior family? Assassinate? I love that the character setup for Li Qin already sounds pretty cool.
The director for Untouchable Lovers! I don’t know how I feel about that – I hope she only directed episodes 1-16.. The rest of the show was a mess. :(
