Chloé Zhao to direct Marvel’s “The Eternals”

Variety reports that director Chloé Zhao , who was rumored to be one of the options for Black Widow, has been chosen to direct the MCU’s “The Eternals” film. This is her biggest film yet, and I’m really excited because she sounds like a huge nerd in her interviews (she still writes fanfics online!).

Matthew and Ryan Firpo are on board to pen the script with Marvel president Kevin Feige producing.

Created by Jack Kirby, the story of “The Eternals” is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as the Deviants.

She’s currently working on a Western for Amazon and some unknown film with Frances McDormand.  We’re never getting that Chinese sci-fi film she talked about, are we?

Chloé Zhao is the second female director of Chinese descent to recently land a big superhero film, the other being Chinese-American Cathy Yan for DC’s Birds of Prey.     They’re two of four recent Tisch-educated Chinese female directors to keep a lookout for, the other two being Li Fangfang (Forever Young) and Zhang Mo (Suddenly Seventeen).
