Chloé Zhao lands new Amazon film, in talks to direct Black Widow solo film

Some updates on director Chloé Zhao, who is still writing fan-fiction online and paying off her student loans as of last month. Don’t forget to support her by watching The Rider in theaters now!

  • Amazon has picked up her upcoming film on Reeve Bass.
  • She is one of several female directors in talks to direct Marvel’s Black Widow solo film. She’s actually said in an interview that she grew up with comic books and mangas, and her first experience with storyboarding were the mangas she drew as a child.
  • On a side news, Chinese-American director Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs ) has been announced to helm the DC female team-up Birds of Prey film.

With all these projects coming her way, hopefully she’s still working on that Chinese sci-fi.

  1. At the core of the movie is the question, ‘What if a superhero loses his or her power, and doesn’t get it back?’ Because they usually get it back, in movies. But they can still be a hero to the people around them. They can still keep dreaming, be loved and celebrated.

Chloé Zhao on The Rider, but also potentially her Black Widow pitch?

  2. I am not familiar with her works but I’m happy that she’s having all of these opportunities coming her way. Hopefully when Crazy Rich Asian movie coming out and making big buck; it leads to more Asian representation in mainstream Hollywood. It’s about time that they need to give Chinese actors/actresses more opportunity since they want to get that China money.
