Tired of power-climbing dramas where the lead is always forced in positions of power because everyone was just so mean to them?
Not The Legend of Dugu’s Dugu Banruo (Ady An). She wants power because she knows she is smarter than them all and deserves it as much as the next person. Sure, she loves her family and tries to do what’s best for them, but she also spends time scheming and politicking because she wants to rule the world
Opposite her is love interest and foil Yuwen Hu (Xu Zhengxi), aka the more crazier version of her. He knows he’s more capable than everyone else, and he wants power, too. Unlike her, who also cares for her family and eventual husband, he cares for no one minus a possessive craving for her.
Together, they make a great, dysfunctional pair as they go from allies and lovers to fighting it out for the throne, sometimes helping each other and sometimes trying to ruin each other. The two are easily one of the most interesting pair of leads in an ancient series in a long time, I highly recommend the drama for their parts.
Before you complain that technically, Dugu Qieluo and Yang Jian are the leads, let me remind you that Yang Jian’s most recent on-screen trip left him off-screen for eight whole episodes, and the one before that was five episodes. The series airs six episodes per week on Wednesdays.
too bad it’s merely fictional (yuwen hu and dugu banruo), else than that everything’s fine.
I would love to see a Wu Zetian-focused Wu Zetian drama where she actively tried to consolidate power because why shouldn’t she.
