The new version of Handsome Siblings 绝代双骄 is directed by Zou Zicheng (second director of The Stand-In) started filming today, and has confirmed Chen Zheyuan (Legend of Zu 2) as Xiaoyu’er and Hu Yitian (A Love So Beautiful) as Hua Wuque. Hu Yitian’s acting skills is his biggest weakness, and he really needs to pull a Nic Tse (whose good looks could somewhat cover for his wooden acting) to make this work.
The Smiling Proud Wanderer 笑傲江湖 is getting remade again just 5 years after Wallace Huo and Joe Chen’s version, though hopefully there won’t be any gender-bending twists this time round.
They’ve cast a bunch of newbies in the main roles, with Ding Guansen (Fist & Faith),as Linghu Chong, Ding Yuxi as Dongfang Bubai, Chen Xun as Lin Pingzhi, Xue Haojing as Ren Yingying and Jiang Zixin as Yue Lingshan. Directed by Jin Chen (Sparrow), the drama finished filming in May 2017, and will air on Youku sometime this year.
i’m currently watching this. and i’m fond of Dongfang Bu Bai. he’s gorgeous
Watched two eps of Smiling Proud Wanderer 2018. The lead is probably the worst I’ve seen so far. He acts like the awkward nerd in a coming-of-age dramas when Linghu Chong is probably one of the most carefree and oldest Jin Yong leads.
I don’t know, I kind of like it. I have not seen the earlier series, but I think it quite good.

When did they start filming? This seems super fast.
Since they wrapped up in May last yr, I’d assume production started in Feb/March, so it makes sense for it to be airing now.
I hope they didn’t finally get a man to play Dongfangbuba just for easy BL fodder b/w Dongfangbubai and Linghu Chong because damn it why can’t those two just fall in love with the people they’re suppose to.
The tagline is also ???. None of those people but Lin Pingzhi are young nor new to Jianghu and this is not a coming-of-age story.

Btw, I read somewhere that Yang Lian Ting (DFBB’s boyfriend in the novel) would be acted by a female actress (please cmiiw). So, I dont think (I hope) there would be BL between DFBB and LHC here

Perhaps the story wants to explore DFBB-YLT’s relationship as a tragic love story *shrug*

The author had originally envisioned the book as a political intrigue, I don’t know why everyone wants to make it a romance for DFBB. Lin Pingzhi and Yue Buqun are both far more interesting characters if they wanted to explore side characters.

okay both of these movie are like my most favorite Chinese drama of all time I hope that they do not mess this up because the other ones was very big disappointment the only version that I love are the Bridget Lynn versions and a few of the older ones. Hope they do good.
I actually would like a gender bender tag lol. I’m a fan of Dongfang Bubai! I’ll take a look if it ever airs.
