World War II drama River Sunset releases teaser, confirms Zhang Luyi and Janine Chang as leads

River Sunset 长河落日 is an upcoming Chinese-US co-production that will focus on the events in the lead up to the Tokyo air raids of April 1942.

Zhang Luyi (Legend of the Demon Cat) plays Lin Sen / Ichiro Takemura, a genius double agent who is tasked with rescuing a group of Americans after their plane was shot down by the Japanese in Zhejiang, or Sanzao Island, if we’re to follow the plot released by SARPPFT. He is aided by a local, played by Janine Chang (The Advisors Alliance), who helps him gain the trust of the people on the island as the pair try to ferry out the Americans and an important code book.

The clip starring Casper Van Dien is a teaser for the US portion, which has already wrapped up filming. The drama is intending to air late this year after the main crew finish filming in China. Ryu Kohata (Fist & Faith) costars as the main antagonist.

The 30 episode drama is written by Zhao Jun (Onion from the boot of a Benz) and co-directed by Zhao Yilong, who served as assistant director in Nirvana in Fire and Romance of Our Parents, and Shaun Piccinino (Super Power Beat Down).

  1. Seem like an interesting drama. Recently there’s quite a few mainland dramas with foreign collaboration. Like The last Visa, Moscow Operation and now River Sunset.
