Two teasers have been released for Heavy Sweetness, Ash-like Frost, the upcoming fantasy drama that revolves around the romance between two deities, played by Yang Zi (Legend of the Dragon Pearl) and Deng Lun (Ode to Joy 2).
Yang Zi plays Jin Mi (nickname Grape) the child of a flower deity. She meets Xufeng, the heavenly prince who can transform into a phoenix, when he crash lands into the flower kingdom. Curious about the world outside, she follows him to the heavenly kingdom, and meets Xufeng’s half-brother, the ambitious Night deity Runyu (Luo Yunxi). They both develop romantic affections for Jin Mi, though she doesn’t understand the concept of ‘love’ due to being fed the Unfeeling Pill as a child.
Jin Mi accidentally kills Xufeng thinking he was the culprit behind her father’s death, and spits out the Unfeeling Pill in the process. A few years later, she meets Xufeng, who has now become a demon lord, and attempts to rekindle their relationship.
Coming from the director of Noble Aspirations and writer of The Mystic Nine, I don’t have high expectations for this adaption (not to mention the CGI reminds me of Once Upon A Time), though the leads’ acting should be solid.
A scene from Jin Mi and Xufeng’s mortal life:
Kathy Chow (Xuanyuan Sword Legend: The Clouds of Han) as Heavenly Empress
He Zhonghua as Heavenly Emperor
Ning Wentong (Ode to Joy 2) as Carrot Deity, Jin Mi’s mentor
The Heavenly Empress is not amused, I see.
Y’know, I might have read this long ago had I known there was a Carrot Deity involved. That doesn’t say a lot about my selection process…
I hope this is good and I hope they don’t mess it up like they did the other fantasy movies.
