Upcoming “adventure mystery” drama Mystery of Antiques is set in the 1990s, and stars Xia Yu (Wished) as the owner of an antiques store who embarks on several expeditions to find valuable treasures, Qiao Zhenyu (Song of Phoenix) as the heir of an antique appraisal firm, Cai Wenjing (My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend) as the heiress of the powerful Huang family and Chie Tanaka (52Hz, I Love You) as a good-natured Japanese lady who harbours a deep secret.
The teaser doesn’t give us any substantial information about the plot, though the high production value and solid cast has definitely piqued my interest.
The 36 episode drama is helmed by Wu Bai (Bu Liang Ren) and short films director Yu Qing, while new writers Liu Yinshi (The Solitary Man) and Lu Yuan wrote the script.
That trailer looks so good! It’s nice to see Chinese dramas with good editing and production values. Are there other shows with this level of visual quality?
Period drama wise, there’s Legend of Zhen Huan, Nirvana in Fire, The Great Protector, The Advisors Alliance and Nothing Gold Can Stay (currently airing). All of them are beautifully filmed and acted, though Zhen Huan and The Great Protector have the strongest scripts.
Production values and cast looks great. Glad to see Qian Zhenyu finally getting a chance to act in a big budget project.
