Xu Jiao debuts hanfu look at Venice Film Festival

Xu Jiao and Celina Jade. I always think Celina Jade looks so familiar but I can’t figure out who she looks like.

Actress and hanfu aficionado Xu Jiao  wore  her first hanfu-styled dress  to an international red carpet today at the “The Shape of Water” premier at the Venice Film Festival. I like how the dress doesn’t look too out of place but is clearly inspired by hanfu.    The dress was designed by her friend and I want it.

Review: Brotherhood of Blades II: The Infernal Battlefield

Promotional theme song: Deep love is as subdued as you by Zhou Shen (still on repeat in my playlist)

Aptly titled The Infernal Battlefield, the second instalment of the Brotherhood of Blades film series brings together a talented cast of actors in one of the best wuxia epics in recent years. The story formula hasn’t really changed since the first movie, but it’s worth watching for the cinematography and action choreography alone. Minor spoilers ahead.

Review: Let’s Shake It Eps 1 – 7

006g7fS1ly1fasex5h0ryj31ux1uxhdu0
Potentially the weirdest drama I’ve seen in a while, but also one of the cutest.

Let’s Shake It 颤抖吧,阿部! is so strange  that it works.  The female lead is an alien slave trader, the male lead trains people to smash their heads with bricks, the other male lead is a cat half of the time,   and the director interjects the drama with random scenes of little kids poking fun at the plot.

When alien human traders Abu (An Yuexi) and Meow (Wang Yanyang)  crash  on Earth, they  take over the body of the recently murdered Tang Qingye and a cat to survive.   As they try to get rescued from Earth, they slowly uncover the real reason their spaceship was attacked and a plot to harvest humans for world domination. Watch as Abu gains sympathy for those she once thought sub-alien and even falls for her human adopted brother (Zheng Yecheng), who it turns out may be the heir to the throne.

Before leaving prom, the boys poses for a photo to remember the night.

Zhuge Liang finally appears in new stills for The Advisors Alliance

The Advisors Alliance became less addictive ever since the awesome Cao Cao (Yu Hewei) and Yang Xiu (Zhai Tianlin) passed away, but these new stills have definitely piqued my interest for part 2 of the drama.

Part 2 will focus on Sima Yi’s conflict with Zhuge Liang (Wang Luoyong) and Cao Shuang (Du Yiheng). His deteriorating relationship with the Cao family eventually paves the way for the Sima family’s coup d’état.

The Advisors Alliance: Howling Tiger, Roaring Dragon is set to air sometime in the Fall.
