Yang Zi will be reuniting with the producers of Great Yangko in new period fantasy Heavy Sweetness, Ash-Like Frost 香蜜沉沉烬如霜, based on the novel of the same name by Dian Xian. Deng Lun (Ode to Joy 2) and Luo Yunxi (Paediatrician) costar as her love interests.
Yang Zi plays Jin Mi, the daughter of a flower deity who is later poisoned to death. Jin Mi is given a magical pill that prevents her from feeling and expressing romantic love, and becomes the brunt of many jokes when she gets tangled in a love triangle with Heavenly Prince Xu Feng (Deng Lun) and the ambitious Night Deity Run Yu (Luo Yunxi).
Jin Mi is tricked into thinking her father died at the hands of Xu Feng and kills him, coughing up the magic pill in the process. Xu Feng is revived a decade later as the Demon Lord, and wages war against Run Yu, who has now ascended the throne as Heavenly Emperor. Jin Mi is caught between a rock and a hard place, and ultimately sacrifices herself to return peace to the world.
The 50 episode drama is directed by Zhu Ruibin (Noble Aspirations) and written by Zhang Yuan’ang (The Mystic Nine), and plans to start filming in June. An English translation of the novel can be found here.
I love Deng Lun! But I’m really not interested in another xianxia…
I read the novel, it is quite funny as Jin Mi can’t feel and the main love interests misunderstands her. Three were many jokes about sex called ‘mutual cultivation’ or something like that, but I doubt we will see any of them in the drama thanks to the censorship.
Hm. I’ve not read this book. I wonder if it worth a crack? Then again, I am not a fan of hers, as she may behave portrayed her character too well in ode to joy that I can’t stand her. Couldn’t stand her in nobel aspirations as well… hm…
