Monster Hunt was a commercial success when it premiered last year, and now a sequel starring original trio Bai Baihe (I Belonged To You), Jing Boran (Love O2O) and cute white radish Hu Ba has started filming. This will be Tony Leung’s (The Grandmaster) first comedy in 14 years, and it’s likely he will be playing the main antagonist.
The story will begin a week after the end of the first film, and will follow the exciting new adventures of the young Monster King Hu Ba, its ‘mother’ Song Tianyin (Jing Boran) and ‘father’ Huo Xiaolan (Bai Baihe).
Aside from Tony Leung, the supporting cast also consists of actors Huang Lei (A Love For Separation), Tony Yang (OB/GYN 2), Song Xiaobao (Jian Bing Man), Da Peng (I Am Not Madam Bovary) and Liu Yan (I Belonged To You), singers Chris Li Yuchun and Wu Mochou, and boy band X-Nine.
Monster Hunt 2 began filming in October, and is scheduled for a summer 2018 release.
Actually, Tony Leung’s first comedy in 14 years would be 摆渡人 See You Tomorrow, which opens this month.
