Storm of Prophecy sets new bar for Chinese TV

This is the most-well produced TV trailer from China so far.  The cinematography is stunning, the set intricate, and the editing indicates a wonderful control of pace.  I think I’m in love.

Tribes and Empires:  Storm of Prophecy 九州·海上牧云记 blew me away in the opening scene of the trailer alone.  I hope this sets a new bar for Chinese TV, and I have high hopes for future adaptations of the Tribes and Empires series.   I actually cried thinking about how this could be the future of Chinese TV.

The series is directed by Cao Dun and stars Huang Xuan, Shawn Dou, Zhou Yiwei, Xu Lu, Wen Yongshan, Zhang Jianing, Wan Qian, Kan Qingzi, Peng Guanying, Yu Haoming, Wang Qianyuan, Reyizha,  Jiang Qinqin, Zhang Junning (Janine Chang), Li Xin’ai, and Li Nian . No news on airing date yet. This is the first of three upcoming series set in Novoland, all by different authors and companies.

  1. Wow. If I hadn’t known ahead of time that this was a TV trailer, I totally would have thought it was for a movie.

      • Hopefully the Penguin won’t mess it up then, at least they have the money for it.

Looked up the news, It looks like they’ll do 端脑 as well. personally, I think that series is better as anime, and its first season on bilibili is not bad at all. Hopefully, someone with budge will pick it up do some good with it.

  2. Are you serious this is a drama????? I mean it’s so hard to believe…is it really a drama???? It looks too amazing. I also feel like crying lmao I shouldn’t but I do. It has officially shot up to the top of my list for most anticipated dramas to watch!

  3. Wow i didn’t watch anything as good since nirvana in fire now another high quality drama … I’m in…..

  4. Ok I’m officially impressed, looks more movie quality than TV. Maybe I should actually go read some of the books – they are unfortunately super incredibly long though….

  5. There’s no news on airing yet. If I had to guess, I would say next year given the amount of CGI this would require.
This series has also been filming since September, which means planning probably begun back in 2014. I doubt it was heavily influenced by NIF. But it’s great that NIF has a competitor! Competition is good. XD I don’t think a Chinese drama had this level of on-location shooting since Zhang Jizhong back in his golden days.

  6. wow, very cool. Thanks for sharing! When is this airing ? so glad that NIF raised the bar and inspired others to do better…

  7. I don’t doubt NIF inspired other dramas to raise the bar for quality productions. That’s a positive direction for c-dramas.

    • I wouldn’t exactly categorize it under xianxia since it has no elements of 修仙 nor 武侠. Most of the more canon Novoland books are more like war dramas. Think more along the lines of Games of Thrones but with slightly less twisted people.

  8. Okay. Wow. The cast is no joke, the visual is no joke. I hope the writing doesn’t disappoint *crossfingers*

  9. OMG. Slay. Seriously, that quality is out of this world. Nothing can compare to this trailer in any entertainment worlds, not even Game of Thrones and other western shows.
