The Great Shaolin releases trailer

Three cheers for a period drama that doesn’t involve the palace as much.

The Great Shaolin 少林问道 has released a trailer.  Starring Zhou Yiwei, Guo Xiaoting, Guo Jingfei, He Saifei, Shi An, Dong Yanlin, Zhang Zhixian, Fan Yutong, and Feng Jiayi.  This drama is set in the Ming dynasty.

More stills below the cut.

This brings me to the question of what is the point of decorating your armor so much when you’re just going to get it hacked at in battle.

TIL that spotted cutouts were a fad during the Ming dynasty.

Some of the color schemes are a bit gritty but it’s not a palace drama.

Oh.  Just girly things like playing musical instruments at unearthly hours of the night…

You thought acting as a male character for a Qing dynasty drama was bad.  This guy had to go all-out bald.

Guo Xiaoting starts working outside of Tangren.

… and the stills are pretty encouraging so far…

ZOMG wait!! That was a phoenix crown on your head in the trailer! It feels like forever since I’ve seen one of those!!

Well… there has to be fighting… It’s a Shaolin drama…

I thought he did a pretty good job in The Firmament of the Pleiades.

  1. The opening and closing credits are released as well. I think they can’t neogotiate a deal with a station to air it. Which is a pity, from the trailer it appears to be one of the better dramas being made.

    • I’m counting on Storm of Prophecy to make Zhou Yiwei popular enough to get this through. I didn’t like neither the OP nor the ED and hope they’ll change it. It looks like they just used an over-used template from last decade that makes the whole production look cheap.

  2. The posters looked kind of boring, but this actually has one of the best cut drama trailers I’ve seen in a while. The music is really well used, and they actually put effort into making a story out of it without spoiling everything.
