Can you translate Cong Cong Na Nian?

“Back in Time” not cool enough for Ni Ni?   Come up with you own!

The film version of Cong Cong Na Nian 匆匆那年 is calling for English titles with a reward! Can you come up with a better English title for the Zhang Yibai film starring Ni Ni (#beautiful), Eddie Peng, and Wei Chen?

Since we’re on the subject, what are some of your favorite English translations? Least favorites?  I nominate My Fair PrincessThe Last Supper, and upcoming drama All Quiet in Peking for the former and Love Yunge from the Desert, The Journey of Flower for the latter.

    • I also really liked Nirvana in Fire as a translation. (Btw, I’m trying to read the book right now. It does get better right? It’s so boring right now.)

      • The book is about the same paced throughout. It’s pretty slow and requires a lot of skipping around, but the general set-up is great!

I really like Nirvana in Fire, too, because it’s a really clever name that perfectly represents the main character’s status.

  1. 匆匆那年 – prefer not yo use direct translation . Allowing for poetic license , possible titles in English could be :
‘Reminiscing that year’ or ‘ As time rushes by’ or ‘ Time to remember’
Or ‘that year that flew by’ or ‘ Flash back’

    • I think lulupony used something like “that year that flew by” at one point? If you come up with any you really like, you should enter the contest!
