Wang Leehom, Li Yundi find love in Columbia

In a twist of events, pianist Li Yundi also announced his relationship in almost the same format on Weibo, not forgetting to mention her age and school of origin. Coincidence? I think not.

Today I’m very happy. Everyone must love and be love seriously. My her is called Tian Fei, 25,  a financial mathematics major  graduate of Columbia University. We met last year, she’s very kind! Hope she’ll journey with me and you in my future road of musical dreams! Thanks everyone for the support.

Wang Leehom is taken </3

Poor Li Yundi.

The past few years your comments here have often been about “hope you find your Forever Love”. I’m lucky to have met a girl to hold hands with and share my future. She’s not in the entertainment business so you don’t know her, but I also don’t want to create the opportunity for rumors so… her name is Lee Jinglei, she’s 27 years old and a graduate student at Columbia. Wang Baba & Mama love her and I hope you will too.

A post on Wang Leehom’s page from Monday seemed to have hinted at a relationship status change:

Over the years, this job has at times been very lonely. Writing, recording, constantly traveling, “home” has been, more often than not, my huge suitcase I affectionately named, The Refrigerator. Many of my songs are about “needing someone” and being a “music gypsy” reflecting my long held hopes for love and family. Finding that balance between passion for work and creating the life I so long for has been quite a journey, but now, I’m finally ready to make a change and have the best of both worlds.

The best thing about this? I didn’t have to translate, it was all in English =)

  1. Soooo, now peeps are saying LeeHom’s family pic is photoshopped and fake… this thing is enfolding more crazily than a drama I am so amused

  2. Okay, seriously, Li Yundi? He just undid everything that Leehom was doing. If the marriage helped Leehom to pinch gay rumors once and for all, this just screams BEARDS.

    • Is Li Yundi serious? The way he formatted the post seems like he’s kind of poking fun of Leehom’s announcement. Maybe they were each other’s wingman at a Columbia college study session party lol

And the people who seriously think Leehom is gay. No, in this day and age, and the fact that he’s an entertainer from east coast America, he would’ve came out already. I think this fanship went a little overboard this time.

      • In all seriousness, Li Yundi’s post is baffling.
For one, we all know that if it’s one thing Leehom hates, it’s rumors about his sexuality. Li Yundi’s Weibo is obviously going to make the one time Leehom announces a heterosexual relationship into everyone joking about their homosexual one. So it’s definitely not a friendly joke.
Even worse, it makes Li Yundi himself look bad because the two most common explanations are a)he’s just following what Leehom’s doing or b)he’s ruining Leehom’s moment. And I feel like the girl would not have been happy that this was the way the relationship came out – as a response to someone else’s relationship. Either way, imo it’s a lose-lose situation.

        • It really is puzzling. He milked the ship for all it was worth from constantly mentioning Leehom to even doing an interview regarding their relationship and now has a fervent fandom that was basically nonexistent before. I don’t see how he can possibly be “pissed” at Leehom other than maybe destroying his marketing ploy…

I never really understood the rumors because if he has gay, though he may not have come out, he at least would have at least hinted at it in his music or done themes related to it or been ambiguous about it etc… I feel bad for Leehom because announcing this relationship was a big step for him, he’s said before he wouldn’t unless for marriage b/c he doesn’t believe in his private life having a part in his work. He’s been carefully hinting at it the past year and especially the weeks leading up to this and it’s suppose to be something worth congratulating for especially since he’s always about work work work.

        • I think this is the first time Wang Leehom has EVER confirmed a relationship. This is a huge announcement for him to make, and he must be serious about this girl. And one post from Li Yundi took all that away… I wonder if this is a publicity stunt on Li Yundi’s part since he has a concert coming up. But he’s not a pop star so I don’t understand why he would employ such method.

          • Pfft boys…
I think LYD had feelings and now he’s being childish (and milking it?) I believe it’s likely LH is heading for marriage pretty soon…
            But c-netizens are hilarious LOL!

Are you serious with this? Your heterosexual privilege is surely showing.

I don’t know anything about Leehom’s sexuality and I truly do not care to speculate but anyone believing this is just truly laughable. Coming out in America and Europe, so called progressive countries, is still a big deal and many celebrities still refrain from doing so for fear of their careers… I invite you to look to look at the Twitter abuse Tom Daley received on Twitter when he announced he was in a relationship with a man and read about how actors that were once openly gay suddenly were shoved into the closet by their agents so they could become “leading men” (re: Luke Evans) and make that comment again about how “in this day and age” apparently it’s so easy for celebrities to come out of the closet and not be affected with a serious face.

Really don’t mean to sound like an ass but this comment is just so problematic. :[

  3. Another one?!? It’s almost like they were all waiting to follow after the first person made an announcement. Who’s next?

  4. Congrats to them! And lol at how the second character in her name is the same as Jane Zhang’s, just pronounced differently… :P
