Jiang Jinfu to succeed Hu Ge as the lead of another Chinese Paladin

Hu Ge/Li Xiaoyao’s succesor in reel and real.

I see a pattern. Shanghai Tangren’s made Chinese Paladin 1, then 3, and now, they’ve announced a tentative cast for Chinese Paladin 5 (another RPG game), starring Jiang Jingfu as the protagonist. His love interest, a “gentle lady of the Tang family” is rumored to be played by Victoria Song Qian (interestingly enough, he’s currently filming a drama with Victoria’s fake husband Nichkun). The other male lead will be a Yaksa Prince from the Demon World. The quartet is rounded out by a descendant of Nuwa. Li Xiaoyao is her grandfather (played by Hu Ge in CP1, if you recall).

And speaking of Hu Ge and Wallace Huo! The two men are supposed to appear as guest stars…the first across Liu Shishi’s female pugilist, and the second across Tang Yan’s bird demon. In addition, Tangren actress Ying’er is supposed to make an appearance. Comparisons between the tentative casting and original character designs are also below the cut; take a look at who they’re playing! (Many comparison photos were taken from a different drama)  Once I got past the “destiny and blood ties! Humanity and demon hearts! Chivalry and love!’ flower fluff of the synopsis, I deducted that the story seems to climax around a sealed well that links the human world and the demon world. Note: All of this casting is tentative, and very likely to change. I am a little suspicious of how many cast members are returning from Chinese Paladin 3, especially the familiar pairings. Source

  1. I hope this one is good… I feel like CP1 is unparalleled as of yet. The other fantasy/RPG ones aren’t as good. I’m sure there are a lot of people who don’t agree with me, but I thought CP3 was no where as good as CP1, and that Xuan Yuan Jian was relatively disappointing ( I watched through it, though, for the cast).

    • They actually canceled plans for this because Tangren got in trouble with SARFT for their mess with Desert Melody. Song Qian and Jiang Jinfu are instead filming a late-Qing/Republican drama by Li Shaofong.

  2. I cringe a little because except for the people in Tangren, everyone else on the list sounds like either Tangren trying to hype up the drama, or fans’ wishful thinking … Excited to finally see Jiang Jinfu in a lead role again, though.

I edited the description a bit to add to the plot based on baike, and then changed the Victoria Song part since the source of that information all traces back to Southern Weekly Entertainment’s Weibo, which has since then took the Weibo down.

    • Yeah, I can’t really imagine both Wallace and Tiffany returning to another Paladin drama. Especially not when they already have that other collaboration (don’t remember the name, though…?) coming up…I wish I could find a more linear description of the plot. Maybe I’ll just look at all the baike pages xD

  3. OOOH! Another fantasy drama! It’s such a pity that that they never end up looking as good as the actual games do though… :(
