Here to make Monday a little easier =)
Here to make Monday a little easier =)

You know you’re getting old when half of the singers on your playlist are younger than you. This week’s Music Monday features a total of 7 post-90s groups/singers. But first Bibi…

Vase and Flower 花樽与花”, the bonus track on Bibi Zhou‘s new album UNLOCK, is the Cantonese version of her single “Secret Friends 密友”. The MV is produced by Bibi’s newly established studio, Begins Studio.

This week I’m trying out soundcloud for the first time for recently released mp3

New Songs

Should Grow Up 该不该长大” is the debut single of 18 year old Liu Meilin (刘美麟). Recently signed to Show City Times (Jane Zhang, Yang Mi, Pan Chen). This post-90s singer came to fame after a video of her singing Faye Wong’s “Because of Love” surfaced on the internet. “Should Grow Up” is produced by Adizi 阿弟仔, who also helped to produce a remake of Little Match Girl 卖火柴的小女孩 for Liu Meilin.

Confession 情话” is a duet from Xu Liang (徐良) and Sun Yuyou (孙羽幽), both signed to Wonderful Music (Stefanie Sun, Amber An).

New MV Releases

RTA released the MV for their second single “Unbridled Courage 放肆的勇气”. Can we all just take a moment to admire how well made this MV is, and how the boys’ outfit actually fits the theme and is age appropriate?

Speaking of young performers. TF Juniors reappears with a new MV “Street Dancers 街舞少年”. This group of kids is not an actual group; their company modeled them after Johnny’s Juniors, hoping to train them into the perfect entertainer in the future.

Youth Journey 少年要踏上的旅程” is the first single off of Wang Ximan (王熹蛮)’s first full length album Choose Growing Up 只能选择长大. This post-90s Sichuan Music Conservatory alumna released her debut EP Star’s Pity (?) 星星相惜 in 2012.

“If Possible 如果可以” marked the return of singer Guo Yan (郭燕).

Weekly Performance Highlight

Yu Kewei (郁可唯) performed Ke Yimin’s Missing You Like Crazy 想你想疯了 on last week’s Mad for Songs. Don’t you just love watching her sing?

Huang Ling (黄龄) performing Jam Hsiao’s “Princess 王妃” on this week’s Mad for Songs. What I love about Huang Ling is her ability to take any type of song and completely owns it; this version of Princess screams Huang Ling as soon as you hear the first line.

This week’s guest on Legend of Songs is Zhao Chuan (我是一只小小鸟). Hong Chen (洪辰) performed his “I Finally Lost You 我终于失去了你” from the album by the same name, which was released two years before Hong Chen was born.

Nothing surprising from this week’s X-Factor performances, other than HOPE beating the judges’ favorite Ceng Yiming (曾一鸣), sending the latter in to the elimination round for next week. The refreshing performance above is by 19 year old Liu Ruiqi (刘瑞琦). How does her version of “Cappuccino” compare to Elva Hsiao’s original version?

Relevant OSTs

Sang by the post-90s male lead Lu HongOriginal Flavor of Love” serves as the theme song for the main couple in Genius Vs. Muggle. This youthful modern (b)romance drama is currently airing 3 episodes per week every Saturday and Sunday on HNTV.

  2. Really love Bibi’s new song, especially the lyrics, but what’s with the random white people?

    Hong Chen should’ve totally won.

P.S. The new music player is fancy! I like it.
P.P.S. I also really like the girl with the guitar banner.
