New Year Galas Wrap-up

jaysongjaylittle

CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala has become one of the symbols of the Lunar New Year in China and one of the most extravagant shows that CCTV puts on every year. Jay Chou’s performance was probably the most anticipated event of the night. It consisted of three generations of singers – folk singer Song Zuying, Jay and 9-year-old genius Hou Gaojunjie- singing a blend of Song Zuying’s “Spicy Girls” and Jay’s “Herbalist Manual.” Apparently, singing with Song Zuying has been a dream of Jay.

Update: Jay also said that he has already invited Song Zuying to sing in a duet with him. He says he wants to compose a duet just for her.

Dreamworks and Disney should be.

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, a movie based on the cartoon series of the same name and featuring the voice of Fan Bingbing, GoGoClub and Ah Niu, surprisingly beat both Dreamworks’ Madagascar II and Disney’s Bolt at box offices last week. It became the largest grossing Chinese feature animation in box offices by earning 30 million Yuan in only one weekend.

Earlier it was mentioned that these four were in Egypt vacationing. They are all in the upcoming Chinese Paladin 3, and three (all except Yang Mi) were in Legend of the Condor Heroes, and the same three were in Young Warriors of the Yang Clan. During the course of the filming for CP3, the two Beijingers Yang Mi and Liu Shishi became BFFs, and Hu Ge and Yuan Hong have been good friends for a long time. So the idea of them vacationing together was really cute. Yang Mi should switch companies and join that of the other three’s so they can vacation together more and so their company can pay for their double wedding. (more…)

When life gives you mangoes, make news

Updates on the New Meteor Garden, Zhang Jie and Jackie Chan, Chen Chusheng, Guo Jingming and other EE Media/Hunan TV aka Mango TV related news.

Hungry, anyone?
Hunan TV's logo

Everything about the New Meteor Garden is still undecided, so here are the latest “news” flying around. The announcing of the casting of F4 has been moved back again, but the female lead has been chosen. She’s a nineteen-year-old from the Beijing Film Institute. The story will be significantly changed, with different names and backgrounds of each of the characters. For example, Rui might play the piano instead of the violin. Being forever Chinese, the drama will also be less violent and more inspirational. Domyouji has pretty much been confirmed as not from the Super Boys. But of course, as CFensi should’ve pounded into you by now, you can’t always trust what you read.

Nanking! Nanking! : China Begins to Look at Own Holocaust

u1819p28t3d1613083f326dt20070626031224

Why was a Holocaust with a death count of hundreds of thousands a forgotten one? And why is it being remembered now? While this subject has often been placed into the realm of political sentiment, at the heart of it is simply a matter of finding self-identity from the past.

China fifty years ago after the Holocaust was burdened by the toll that Qing dynasty decay, WWII, and a devastating civil war took on it, in no shape to ask for any sort of remembrance for the victims of the massacres. Also, unlike the Jews after World War II, China was communist and thus could not receive help in this matter from abroad. Thus fifty years passed while China tried to rebuild itself with far more pressing matters to think about than the past. Only the present and future mattered. However, recently China has gotten to a economic state where she has the luxury of remembering this forgotten Holocaust.

Recently a string of movies have been made about this subject; as the Chinese movie industry grows, more and more Chinese directors have wanted to tackle it. The newest is perhaps the most promising yet…Nanking! Nanking! by Lu Chuan, starring Liu Ye and Gao Yuanyuan.

Alan Receives a Call From Wei Chen on a Radio Show

Decided to stick the MV to this post because I didn’t want to make another entirely separate post for what is simply a commercial. It’s not Jetta’s Big Day or a masterpiece like that. Here’s some more Wei Chen for you, because the song does not show off his vocals well, despite the fact that he, along with friend Su Xing, wrote the rap, and he doesn’t get too much screentime. I would post more pics of Alan, but her fanbase in China is smaller and thus no fan-taken pics from this event.

Jane’s music, Jane in music, Music is Jane

Jane is a constant reminder that life isn't fair.
Jane is a constant reminder that life isn't fair.

Just Music, Beyond Music
Jane@Music

The biggest surprise is probably the change of Jane’s “signature” sound, which left the usual ethereal beauty and went closer to the human heart. Jane’s music isn’t just what you think…Perhaps, this girl once won you over with the high “dolphin sound/whistle register,” but beginning with this album, you can move the focus away from the whistle register. Free your ears, open your heart, feel and enjoy the joys and imaginations brought by every note – a true expression of feelings enters everysong. Three years, let you see Jane’s change.
