Wei Chen’s “Struggle”

Wei Chen, one of the new F4, recently returned to act in the play version of the biggest mainland drama of 2006, “Fen Dou/Struggle.” after leaving for a while to film “Le Huo Nan Hai” amongst his many various activities. He also sings the just released theme song,” Feng Ren Yuan/Lunatic’s wish,” for the play, composed by good friend and fellow Super Boy Lu Hu.

Out of the proposed F4 members Wei Chen’s definitely has had the most acting experience. His acting skills also seems to be the best according to people who have seen him act, which is not surprising considering the emotions he put into his music. The performance that best exemplifies this is the following performance by him and He Jie that got me into Super Boys and Girls:

Interestingly enough, Wei Chen’s college, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, is often credited as the origin of plays in China. Wei Chen is one of the five Supers Girls/Boy who come from there – Li Yuchun (2005 1st), He Jie (2005 4th), Tan Weiwei (2006 2nd), Wei Chen (2007 3rd), and Wang Zhengliang (2007 8th). It’s wonderful seeing them achieve their music dreams after having decided to devote their life to a profession with an uncertain future, although sometimes success in music and getting to sing awesome theme songs requires doing plays on the side that require lots of flexibility. Wei Chen definitely deserved his “best overall artist” award at the Wind and Cloud Newcomer’s Awards.

  1. Yu Haoming, as far as I know, has a perfect slate. Wei Chen got in a scandal a while ago by taking happy pictures in front a half down flag (the flag was like miles away…) and they said that EE Media’s “giving up” on him. But obviously, they haven’t.

  2. Yu Haoming and Wei Chen are definitely in because they were in the Meteor Garden poster for Hunan TV’s 2009 calendar. Everyone else is undecided.
