Budding Taiwanese director, Alexi Tan (Chen Yili?!?), who’s first feature film tanked critically, and yet gave those who watched it a gleam of hope for the future of Taiwan cinema, has tapped into less examined aspect of Chinese cinema, the short film. He’s nabbed stars Liu Ye and Gao Yuan Yuan for the leads in his 10 min short for a clothing brand.

And no it’s not porn.

I’m interested in seeing this, but I’m really also just interested in seeing Gao Yuanyuan. She’s hardly been in anything but plays recently. I’m all for actors on stage, but not too many at a time. First that one thing she did in Beijing, and now a stage version of Hamlet. I don’t think the world really needs that many productions of Hamlet does it? Especially not China, which had two different versions of it in the past two years with The Banquet and Prince of the Himalayas. Liu Ye did Amber, got his critical aclaim, and is now back to movies. She should learn from him.

Fairly HQ trailer thanks to Twitch. The 10 min short is actually supposed to be out but i don’t know where to see it.

These two will next be seen together in Nanjing! Nanjing! one of China’s first big-budgeted movies about the Nanjing Massacre, but probably and hopefully not the last.
